Founder & CEO
Jaya Kunnel founded Contemporary Rehabilitation Services (CRS) as a private practice in 1995 and has since been the lead therapist with over 40 years of experience working in the field. She received her Masters in Physical Therapy from NYU's College of Arts and Sciences in New York. During her years of practice, Jaya has served as the Director of Physical & Occupational Therapy at New York's Hospital for Joint Diseases as well as at the Abilities Health & Rehab Center in Long Island, NY.
Over the years, she has developed a holistic approach to health and rehabilitation, including body awareness, restorative spinal elongation techniques and nutrition supplementation. Jaya specializes in craniosacral therapy, as well as advanced visceral and neural mobilization. A strong proponent of the Upledger and Barral Institutes for Craniosacral Therapy, she uses highly specialized manual therapy techniques to address various systems in the body and re-train the body for correct integrated mobility. She offers incredible insight into the root cause of dysfunctions, be it a lack of mobility in an organ, nerve, bone or muscle or a lack of adequate stabilization with movement.
She has published The ABC Approach to Health & Wellness, A Step-By-Step Exercise Guide, an exercise booklet that offers a unique blend of structural and functional rehabilitation methods to address any type of dysfunction.
Anjali Apte, D.P.T
Center Therapy Director
Dr. Anjali Apte, Center Therapy Director of Contemporary Rehabilitation Services, is a Doctor of Physical Therapy with over two years of managerial experience working in the outpatient orthopedic setting. As a graduate of the number one ranked DPT graduate program in the nation, she offers a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology and musculoskeletal wellness. She was the youngest Center Therapy Director at Concentra, a nation-wide healthcare company that focused on worker's compensation patients. She has had ample experience administering work performance evaluations to identify risk factors in potential candidates and assess their ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
Anjali is an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor and has mentored numerous graduate students through their clinical rotations. She is also a certified Hatha Yoga instructor, and like her mother, incorporates this holistic background into her Craniosacral Therapy treatment approach. She has completed several courses with the Manual Therapy Institute, an industry leading fellowship program that instills best practices of highly specialized diagnostic and evaluative skills and administration of advanced manual therapy from experts in the field. Utilizing the comprehensive and integrated ABC approach and adopting a dynamic early intervention model, she strives to help individuals return to function sooner and reduce their risk of re-injury by emphasizing the right foundational principles and encouraging patients to apply skills to improve the quality of their lives.
